Shabbat Achia in Ein Gedi for British Hachsharot

British Bnei Akiva members in Israel reunited in Ein Gedi at the weekend for a special Shabbaton arranged with Bnei Akiva UK, which included a Friday visit to the Dead Sea.
A series of activities and shiurim over the weekend presented the participants with leadership options available to them upon their return to the UK. The group also discussed issues facing Israel today, specifically the political complexities of building a Knesset coalition.
Abi Broza, mazkira of Bnei Akiva UK, flew in especially for the Shabbaton, which was also attended by Zeev Schwartz, the head of World Bnei Akiva. Both of them took part in a lively "Any Questions" panel on Friday night.
Rav Rafi Ostroff, the head of the Hachshara department, was with us for Shabbat too, and he led a Tisch on Friday night and showed the group the historical and biblical significance of the area with a short tour on Shabbat afternoon
Sarah and Raoul Wootliff, together with a team of top-quality madrichim, ensured that every moment was filled with the winning combination of education, fun and a great atmosphere!
Mealtimes were enhanced by the singing, dancing and the Divrei Torah given by Rebecca Schwartz and Chana Abrahams, and a special Kiddush was laid on in honour of Hannah Filer's birthday.
Bnei Akiva has always placed a strong emphasis on leadership development. Over Shabbat we saw in the chanichim the future leaders of our communities, whose passion for education and love for Israel was inspiring.
Gideon Bratt, from Torani, said: "Spending a weekend with leaders of Bnei Akiva, and seeing the opportunities available to us, boosted my enthusiasm to take up a leadership role within the community on my return. Aside from that, it was also an amazing weekend in Ein Gedi with a really great atmosphere!"
Simone Matlin, from Lehava, said: "Bnei Akiva arranged an amazing Shabbat! It reminded us all why we are so proud to be part of BA, and I am looking forward to continuing to be involved in the movement that has given me so much."
As Havdallah brought Shabbat to an end, the group got one last surprise before boarding the coaches back to Jerusalem - an exclusive Shevet Achia t-shirt!
